Thanksgiving week greetings! We’re baking pies and brining the bird and in between we’re decking the halls. We still don’t have our tree but I’ve been adding touches of faux greenery here and there. These picture frame boughs are an easy way to add bits of evergreen to your walls with pretty little bows and they make wall galleries or individually framed prints more festive. The supplies are simple, you need evergreen branches (pine, fir, etc) or faux garland like I the realistic inexpensive one I used; wired ribbon, scissors, floral wire, and small clear adhesive wall hooks.   To…

We’re in full preparations for hosting Thanksgiving and I’m off to buy the staples and pick up the turkey tomorrow. We took on two home improvement projects last week, having the gutters and eaves and shutters of our house painted before the rains come. We also retextured and repainted the study and I love the new darker color, it’s Oil Cloth by Benjamin Moore. It will take a few more weeks to fully reassemble the space since I have other things on my plate, but by January it will be the coziest sitting room with an electric fireplace surrounded by…

Just like for our 2022 Gift Guides and 2021 Gift Guides, we’ve put all three of our gift lists in one place (this post right here). So, without further ado… let’s dive into the 3 categories that we cover every year: Gift Ideas for Grown-Ups Gift Ideas for Kids Gift Ideas Under $12.99 We have fun making these each year, and always include things we actually own & love as well as items that we’re actually buying for others in our family (from our own kids to each other – and for relatives and friends). It’s probably helpful to point…

I just returned from checking on our house in Florida and while there it was nice weather in the 70s, but on the last day it rained and I sat in our living room with the electric fireplace on under a cozy blanket reading a book and it was bliss! Winter brings colder temperatures and the need to, like nature, become dormant in our activity and take time to relax, especially when it rains or snows outside so I take every opportunity to do so. 🙂 Do you remember this electric fireplace makeover from last year? I was so close…

Several months ago I started making state shaped ornaments with raw clay at my ceramics studio for a local market where I’m selling art prints and ceramics in early December. Those ceramic ornaments were fired in a kiln, however I thought to myself perhaps I could recreate them with air dry clay for those who don’t have kiln access and the experiment was successful so good news, you can also make these with air dry clay! These are simple to make but they do take a little patience. Air dry clay takes a few days to fully dry so if…

Every year, millions of Americans begin the task of renovating their living spaces. It’s the goal of these projects to turn a house into a home. Many of these same people start with upgrading the flooring, and the most popular choice among these options is hardwood. Hardwood flooring, aside from being more durable than carpeting and vinyl, has also been proven to improve air quality and reduce the appearance of allergens such as pollen. So, what happens when you decide to upgrade a commercial space with hardwood? Is it a viable option? Let’s find out. The main item with commercial…

I’m in Florida this weekend checking up on our house and enjoying the sunshine before returning to California on Tuesday. Friday I went to the sand sculpting competition on Siesta Key beach, what fun to see so much creativity rising from the white sand of one of my most favorite places on earth. I posted a few images on Instagram stories if you’re curious about the festival. This time of year I wrestle with how to make seasonal gift and decor recommendations without making the month all about buying stuff. I prefer to highlight creativity and ideas for celebrating the…

It feels like a miracle, but we’ve gone from absolutely zero closet space in our bedroom (when we moved in we just had dressers) to having just as much space as our last house’s big walk-in closet! We’ve previously covered how we installed Ikea Pax wardrobes and how we made them look built-in, so today we’re throwing open every door & drawer to show you how we’ve organized them. If you’re looking for tips to maximize your storage & specific products that can make it feel more customized, this is the post for you. It should be said upfront that…

Do you collect certain objects for your Christmas decor? I have different friends that collect nutcrackers, gnomes, specific brand ornaments, etc. My thing has always been white ceramics, I adore them. It started one year when I spied a pair of reindeer in a local shop window. They were too expensive before Christmas but I walked into the shop the day after and they were 50% off so I snagged them. That was eight years ago and I’ve been collecting ever since, one or two new pieces a year. Of all the decor I own that I store in my…

Do you all recall the Halloween village I made back in September? Well…. surprise, I’ve reinvented it as a Christmas village. I hinted at the end of that post that this would be a great idea and sure enough, it was! This DIY Christmas village is easy to make and adds seasonal touch to any mantel or shelf. It’s made with wood houses, bristle brush trees, and a few additional supplies listed below. You can use any color trees you find to coordinate with your home’s seasonal color palette. I chose cheerful pink, turquoise, and green trees for my little…
