Sometimes the simplest projects can be so satisfying! In our Florida house we had a lot of straight edge room transitions and I’ve been dreaming of adding arches to doorways for some time. When I discovered this Etsy shop, I saw I could make it happen as an easy DIY home improvement project. No lumber or power tools required!
I used two sets of these custom made arch pieces from Bryan’s Etsy shop Arch Friends to transform two of my transitional doorways.

This was such an easy project! Below are the simple steps to transform straight edge transitions into curved doorways!
First, apply a strong construction adhesive on both sides of the arched pieces, be generous with the amount!
Press the arch into place then use painter’s tape to hold it in the corner, allow a full 24 hours for it to dry.
I tested it with a strong grip and pull to make sure it was secured to the corner, the construction adhesive did a great job holding it in just the right spot and making it immoveable.
I filled in the gaps and smoothed over the arch to match the wall texture with two coats of joint compound. Allow 12 hours between coats for the joint compound to dry, and sand each coat after it’s dry.
If you’re matching wall texture, be sure to do that too with your application technique or a spray (like knockdown or orange peel) from a home improvement store. Once the texture was dry, I painted over the sanded surface to match the color of the existing walls.
I repeated the same process for the doorway to our kitchen, you can see the straight edge at an angle from this old picture:

What an improvement and such an easy project to complete in just two days!
We haven’t remodeled the kitchen yet, but for now, I’m going to appreciate the new curves on the transitions in and out of the space.
