When you look around your kitchen, it makes sense that your main goal would be for the space to appear comfortable, functional, and organized, given the available space that is after the usual number of available square-feet per room. For a room to truly look and feel completed, everything that is a built-in into the structure of the room should factor into your design scheme – the most dominant feature in any given room would be its cabinetry, and this includes the manner in which it is styled.

Traditional cabinetry is a very traditional design, often made out of either wood or glass. Though other materials can be incorporated into modern-day cabinetry, the dominating influence is still largely grounded on wood – glass is typically reserved for a minimalist look, with metal and plastic highlights. If you’re renovating your kitchen, you may at some point be faced with the decision to either remodel your existing cabinetry, or clean slate the entire room and start from scratch.

Your kitchen is not a room that is automatically fitted within the contemporary home, much the same as how serving meals aren’t automatically an meal itself. If you need your kitchen to seem clean and welcoming, it may be a good idea to think following a clean-lled theme. ‘Squishy’ colors are more baby-like and typical, and modern style focuses on a level of simplicity. You may want to consider different color tones with varying degrees of glow to give your space a more retro feel: Consider a muted gray preferred by pale blue-tinted furnishing and accessory items along with hints of purity and white. For those with a bit of color around their kitchens, neutral cabinetry and countertops can be Accessorize with darker colors – try raw silt for a vintage look, and WSG tiles for honed colors and warmth.

Next, How Are You Using This Space Right Now?

This is akin to scheduling a dinner for tomorrow – how you’re preparing for and eating your meal carrier today is a reflection of how you’ll feed your children in the years to come. Most cabinet makers see this as a very important aspect of upgrading a kitchen, as it can be daunting to determine just how much kitchen accessories and accent pieces should be highlighted, or what can be done with the entire room to toward developing a complete image. If you have all kinds of kitchenware, dishes, and utensils, they need to be accessible, and can be stored away or displayed so that they’re not overwhelming the room. Most cabinetry now offers drawer organizers, but if not, consider some decorative storage bins, or if you’re really set, some see-through wire racks.

    Consider Safety

As with homes in any area where you have many electrical cords or appliances going, a well-lit worktop will make the area safer to work on. If you have small children in the home, additional lighting can also serve as a preventative measure against painful injuries. Many cabinetmakers today are also increasing their focus on ergonomic designs when it comes to cabinetry and countertop designs, so if you’re asking them to include these types of upgrades – ask! The point, though, is that if you think about you and your kitchen in terms of needs and relationships to other people – and your environment, a sense of integrates is the groundwork that you need to start building your home’s cabinetry and countertops.
