I’m a huge fan of decorating with blue and white for the summer season so I’m back at it with this year’s courtyard setting. I ordered a new rug and then assembled our sectional on top. Long time readers might recognize the furniture set from our patio setup in Las Vegas way back in 2015 when we owned property there. I layered the space with new pillow covers I sewed from outdoor fabrics I ordered online (see sources below). I wrote a DIY tutorial on pocket opening pillow covers a few years ago and used the same simple sewing technique.…

For those of you about to travel, or for those of you who just walk a lot, this post is for you! I always do a lot of walking when I travel, it’s my favorite way to explore cities. Recently I shared favorite walkable cities in Europe that I’ve visited and you could add Valetta from my recent trip to Malta. I average six to eight miles a day whenever I travel so having the most comfortable shoes is key. I get up early and walk all day, taking pictures while I see the sights. There is nothing worse than…

We had a festival yesterday with a lot of pop up vendors in the community space where I have my local shop. I made more sales and met a lot of interesting people. I love connecting with them over topics of travel and design, and studying what kinds of art and ceramics people are drawn to. Next week I’m headed back to Florida, we’re going to check in on our house on the Gulf Coast and then take a road trip over to the east coast to do some exploring. We’re headed to St. Augustine and then down the coast…

We’ve been updating our teenage son’s room for the last few months. It started with a total reorganization plan since he had accumulated a lot of things he had collected over the years and wasn’t ready to let go of. To honor that, we had to add extra storage in the form of shelves and dedicate his closet to storage too. Teens need their private space to relax and sleep and get ready for school and work and also have a space that reflects their personality decorated in the colors and patterns they prefer. When I asked my son what…

As we mentioned in our post about making a bigger backyard pool area, we’ve also made some big changes out front. Namely, we now have a legit front walkway and driveway! Break out the champagne! Release the doves! Rewatch the #Scandoval episode of Vanderpump Rules (or whatever else people like Sherry do to celebrate). I know this may seem unworthy of celebration – a driveway? cool story, bro – but when you live without one for THREE YEARS, it feels like a major win. Why We Needed Parking & Pathways I know most houses come with a place to park…

Letting in the sunlight on a beautiful, warm day can create a wonderful environment in your home. However, over time, sunbeams can actually damage your hardwood flooring. This is because wood is a photosensitive material. Depending on the type of wood your hardwood flooring is made of, sunlight can cause discoloration to the surface. Some wood darkens, while other wood fades when exposed to the sun for extended periods of…

I have a mild obsession with botanical ceramics, so much so I’m incorporating palm and floral motifs into my own work at my local studio. I’m experimenting with different techniques, most recently I used a laser cut palm pressed into clay to create a decorative tray with an irregular edge and olive glazed finish. I like this prototype so much I’m making more in a variety of colors to sell in my local shop.   While in the studio I’m learning how to carve patterns with sgraffito, use kiln safe overlays, and cutouts to embellish with clay leaves and flowers.…

As you know I always love experimenting with new ways of making art. Pressed leaves are making a comeback in the art world, they’re reminiscent of decades and centuries past when people would press flowers into books to preserve them and then turn them into keepsakes. Pressed flowers and leaves have a classic appeal, so I thought I’d try my hand and making a few with green leaves on a black background. I’ve seen pressed flower pieces on Etsy with a white background or inside a clear frame. Black backgrounds highlight green botanicals so beautifully so I chose black art…
