Vinyl flooring reigns supreme in both residential and commercial places. It is affordable, durable, and versatile. However, there are some serious concerns regarding its potential health risks. So who is the culprit? Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and phthalates – chemicals commonly found in vinyl flooring. These chemicals can negatively impact indoor air quality and human health if left unchecked. Is Vinyl Taite Floor Toxic? Vinyl itself, also known as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), is a synthetic material. During its manufacturing process, various chemicals are used to create its desirable qualities like flexibility and water resistance. These chemicals can off-gas – that…
Once we rented a cottage home in Kauai for a family vacation and it had the most marvelous bamboo walled outdoor shower and was filled with orchids. I remember that we never used the indoor shower during our stay because it was so enchanting showering outdoors in that mini magical space. Most of us at some point in life have had the opportunity to shower outdoors, whether it’s camping or the beach or a pool house. An outdoor shower is an enticing amenity for a vacation home but it’s possible to add one to your own home too. A water…
Golden vs. Marble Queen vs. Neon Pothos Some species of pothos can be difficult to tell apart, especially since coloring and pattern can change depending on environmental conditions. Golden pothos typically have green heart-shaped leaves with yellow or golden variegations. In fact, the “aureum” part of its scientific name means “golden.” In lower-light situations, there may be fewer or no golden flecks that are visible. Golden pothos are easy to confuse with two other popular varieties of pothos: marble queen pothos and neon pothos. We have all three of these varieties in our home and even our plant identifier apps…
Step 1: Clip off a healthy vine Use your clean sharp shears to take vine clipping from your neon pothos. Leave at least 3 or 4 leaves below the cut. The more clippings you take, the more new plants you can propagate. Step 2: Put clipping in water Fill a clear glass cup, vase, or other vessel with about 2″ of water. Stick the cut end of your vine in the water, making sure no leaves are submerged. You can remove lower leaves as needed. Step 3: Place in a bright spot Find a spot with bright indirect light to…
Even though the marble queen isn’t the most popular pothos variety, it’s one of our personal favorites! Like all pothos plants, they’re a perfect starter houseplant because they’re resilient, low-maintenance, and fast-growing. Plus, we think it has some of prettiest leaves of all. There are over a dozen kinds of pothos, most of which share similar characteristics and care instructions as the marble queen. You can read more about other pothos we love, like the golden pothos and neon pothos. What Is A Marble Queen Pothos? Marble queen pothos (Epipremnum Aureum ‘Marble Queen’) is a variety of evergreen vine sometimes…

Today I’m sharing the globe light planter posts I created for our Florida home’s back patio. These are all cell phone images, I didn’t bring my DSLR camera on this trip so the color, sharpness, and quality are not as great, also it’s tricky to capture images at twilight, but these are good enough to convey the idea. We have a long rectangular patio and I have two nice seating areas but it gets pitch black at night since there are no exterior lights out here, so this was my seasonal solution. It’s lovely during the day but oh so…
Monsteras are one of the most iconic indoor houseplants today and for good reason. They’re an eye-catching, low-maintenance tropical plant that looks great in any space. Our monsteras are still low and bushy, but they’re climbing plants that can grow tall & tree-like too. Here’s why we chose this easy plant for our home. The genus monstera includes over 50 different species of plants, most known for their large “monster” leaves with distinct holes and split edges. Today we’ll talk about the most popular houseplant variety of monstera: the monstera deliciosa. What Is A Monstera Deliciosa? Monsteras are native to…
How to Propagate A Snake Plant Snake plants can be easily propagated to create new plants for yourself or a friend. Step 1: Take a leaf cutting Use sharp clean clippers to cut a healthy leaf right at the soil line. Since snake plants don’t grow from stems or vines like other houseplants, you don’t have to worry about finding the right “node” for your cut. Consider cutting a V-shaped notch on the bottom to expose more surface area for roots to grow. Step 2: Propagate the clipping in water Fill a clear cup, vase, or vessel with at least…
